The Giver Chapter 1-4 Summary

The book the giver is about a perfect community in which you are given a family unit. In this community you have to apply for a child and you  can only have two kids, a male and a female inside your family unit. In here the rules are very strict and if you brake one or disturb the community peace  you might get released people are afraid of being released because they don't know what happen when you get released. Every time you turn to a new age theirs a ceremony in which the elder  give you  something depending which age you turn. When you turn twelve in the community its the most important age because you have a ceremony in which the elderly give you your job. Jonas was an eleven year old male that leave normally in the community. He was about to turn twelve and he couldn't wait. If you want to have a job you should have minimum of hours done in volunteer hours. Jonas did lots of volunteer hours so he didn't know for sure what job will he get.

Text Responce 1-4
"Thats all?" he asked. "Thats all," she replied, returning the bottle to the cupboard. "But you mustn't forget. Ill remember you for the first weeks, but then you must do it on your own. If you forget, the stirrings will come back. The dreams from the stirrings will come back. Sometimes the dosage must be adjusted"( pg. 37-38)
From this quote I see that the stirrings can't happen because if you have them they make them go away by giving you the pill. The stirrings show your feelings towards others and they don't want you to get in love with someone. I think this is unfair because if you like someone you shouldn't be stop because someones doesn't think its right. I think that if you fall in love with some one they should let you show it and don't give you pills to change your feeling.

Conclusion 1-4
The Giver wrote by Lois Lowry is a book fill with emotion and mystery because it has a lot of interesting events that leave you with the thought of what will happen. This book takes place in a utopian world because there is no trouble and if there is they get released. Jonas the main character is about to turn 12 with is the most important age because they give you a job. Jonas doesn't know which job he will get because the elders observe the places you most do volunteer hours but Jonas always go to different places to do volunteer hours so he doesn't know which job he will be assigned.

  1. Mateo, in your final thought youu state that the book is a utopia, however most of the people had already argued that it is an Dystopia. This is as the population is controled most of the time and people are robot-like. There is also the fact that everything is kind of covered up, so everything looks perfect but isn`t. Now, how is that you think that this is and utopia, and if you still think about it explain it to me.

  2. Joaquin thank you for your comment I don't think that the society they live in is utopia, what i was trying to say is that they see it us a utopian community.

  4. Mateo I strongly agree with your point of view. I believe that people in their community are trying to stop any kind of pleasure and that is not healthy for anyone. Furthermore I also agree with you because them, trying to control their citizens so much, and the fact that being different is seen a bit weird means that they do not appreciate individuality. For example, in their community having lighter eyes is seen as a little strange. In conclusion, I have really enjoyed your blog and believe that you have really strong arguments.
